A Faith Based Feature Film
Logline:
A simple fundraiser turns into a heist when a mom accidentally sells a valuable family heirloom to save her parents’ cafe from closing. Now she must confess her mistake and work with her kaleidoscopic immigrant family to get it back before the bank claims the cafe and she loses her family’s legacy forever.
We are bringing Mental Wellness to the forefront.
Mental Health issues in the second-generation demographics are important for the next generation to thrive.
The World of Coffee Beans and Love
Esha is in the “squeeze generation”. She stuck between taking care of her immigrant parents’ cafe and making sure her teen daughter can realize her dreams of art school. Like so many other women in the world she’s trying to balance work, marriage, kids AND hold on to her own creative dreams.
The world of Coffee Beans and Love is bright, joyous, and warm. Just like the cultures that are represented in the film the palette is colorful and bright. Family and community are at the heart of this film even when things get crazy!
Director’s Statement
I was raised in a mixed culture immigrant home. My mother is from Jamaica and my father is from India. Our table was set with curry chicken and chicken curry…and sometimes pizza! Growing up I never saw myself reflected in media. Even today I’ve never met anyone with my background and for the first time in 44 years I’ve seen myself reflected in media thanks to Madame Vice President Kamala Harris.
Today I’m married to an Ethiopian - American and we have 3 Jamindithiopian children. I wanted to write a story about the journey of identity in immigrant families as well as the journey of a mother raising a multi-cultural family AND holding on to her own dreams as well. We are living with the most diverse intersectional, multi-cultural generation to ever live. This story is to inspire all of us to put the fragments of our identies back together…together.
